They  can be made at home by simply painting layers of specific material on top of each other. They can also be printed using an inkjet printer. This will be covered  in this article including the costs for ink. There are two different categories of cells, namely Organic and Inorganic PV cells that can be printed. In the inorganic category, it is the Perovskite cells, that have recently  generated a lot of excitement. This is because printed organic cells normally have a lower efficiency. However with printed Perovskite cells, we are

All you need to know about Inverters in Solar PV System http://synergyfiles.com/2017/06/need-know-inverters-solar-pv-system/ http://synergyfiles.com/2017/06/need-know-inverters-solar-pv-system/#respond Wed, 07 Jun 2017 11:57:26 +0000 http://synergyfiles.com/?p=2064 The main function of an inverter is to convert DC current in to AC current. Inverters come in all shapes and sizes. They are classified mainly on the power rating or their throughput. For example there are small inverters available that can convert the output from a car battery to run an AC appliance. On the other hand there are large inverters that convert the output from whole solar farms. For the domestic consumer, inverters are available with power rating of 500 W to 10,000 Watts. Similarly inverters are also classified based on the input they accept i.e. It can

Stirling Engine- The obscure jewel http://synergyfiles.com/2016/08/stirling-engine/ http://synergyfiles.com/2016/08/stirling-engine/#respond Wed, 03 Aug 2016 13:24:10 +0000 http://synergyfiles.com/?p=1551 Robert Stirling, a clergyman from Scotland patented the Stirling engine in 1816. Over two centuries since  its inception, the engine has seen little application despite numerous advantages. The engine has four main components. A heating chamber, a cooling chamber, heat exchanger and crank piston links. Robert Stirling produced the first functional engine in 1818. It was used to pump water out of a quarry. It was initially called the hot air engine but is now referred by its inventors name. Stirling engines can be designed in many simple shapes.  There are two main advantages of Stirling engine that set it apart from other engines. Firstly Stirling engines

Renewable Energy Options for the Farm http://synergyfiles.com/2016/06/renewable-energy-options-farm/ http://synergyfiles.com/2016/06/renewable-energy-options-farm/#respond Thu, 23 Jun 2016 12:55:02 +0000 http://synergyfiles.com/?p=1401 A farm is one of the best places for exploiting renewable energy. Farms normally are spread over a vast area of land which is exactly what is  required to harness renewable energy. Situated away from the built environment, they normally receive both solar and wind energy, untrammelled. Planning permission is also relatively easy to acquire compared to places in town/ cities.  In addition, farm animal waste can also be brought to good use for producing renewable energy. This article looks at all available renewable energy options on the farm. Bio Diesel For producing bio-diesel in large quantities, specialized equipment is required. This equipment can be

Births on that day alone reaching over 263,000. As a result children will be born into a world dependent on the burning of fossil fuels as the main method of producing all of the amenities the human race has come to expect in the 21st century. Strain on the environment will be increasing every hour of every day, ultimately wreaking havoc with the natural fabric of our world and creating temperature rises and erratic weather patterns not seen since the last ice age. However, there are

Most Efficient Solar Cooker Design http://synergyfiles.com/2016/06/most-efficient-solar-cooker-design/ http://synergyfiles.com/2016/06/most-efficient-solar-cooker-design/#respond Wed, 01 Jun 2016 14:54:48 +0000 http://synergyfiles.com/?p=1284 Solar Cookers have seen a very lukewarm acceptance even among people who are suffering from fuel poverty. They may not be as dependable and robust for cooking as wood fired stoves are, but nonetheless they do provide a smoke free alternative. In many areas which do not have access to fossil fuels. dried wood is collected  and burned in poorly constructed stoves. The daily collection of dried wood itself is a source of hardship for many poor Africans and Asians. Furthermore, the smoke released from these stoves causes a variety of pulmonary diseases. It has been estimated in a study that burning wood for fuel

Solar Thermo-Electric Generator (STEG): A promising new technology http://synergyfiles.com/2016/05/solar-thermo-electric-generator-steg/ http://synergyfiles.com/2016/05/solar-thermo-electric-generator-steg/#respond Wed, 25 May 2016 15:39:05 +0000 http://synergyfiles.com/?p=1258 A promising new technology is emerging in the solar renewable spectrum that uses Sun’s heat to produce electricity. The product is called Solar Thermo-electric generator (STEG) and uses Seebeck effect for heat to electricity conversion. Just like PV, this technology is also completely solid state, which makes the resulting products both durable and reliable. At present, the lab efficiency for STEG product is around 5% but has the potential to be doubled (10%). When compared to high performance PV modules ( with efficiency >20%), the efficiency of STEG is almost 4 times lower. This brings us to the question, why is this technology

Farmer’s guide to Wind Turbines/Wind Farm http://synergyfiles.com/2016/05/farmers-guide-wind-turbinewind-farm/ http://synergyfiles.com/2016/05/farmers-guide-wind-turbinewind-farm/#respond Thu, 12 May 2016 15:56:44 +0000 http://synergyfiles.com/?p=1191 Wind turbines present a lucrative opportunity for farmers/ land owners, particularly for land that is difficult to cultivate. In many areas where the land has become infertile due to salinity or loss of top soil, wind farm can provide farmers with an alternate green income. However before embarking on that project, the farmers must assess the feasibility. In this guide a few major factors that dictate the profitability of turning your farm into a wind farm are listed. It should be noted that the foot print of a wind turbine is extremely small, meaning that agriculture can  be carried out

Solar Desalination Tower: The solution to water crisis http://synergyfiles.com/2016/05/solar-desalination-tower/ http://synergyfiles.com/2016/05/solar-desalination-tower/#respond Wed, 04 May 2016 12:14:51 +0000 http://synergyfiles.com/?p=1136 With the exponential rise in population, fresh water sources are getting under increasing strain. The rise of population coupled with  global warming is compounding the problem.  There is also the issue of high precipitation (rainfall) zones moving away from the population centres. Our planet is losing bio diversity  at an alarming rate. The population on the planet has crossed the 7.4 billion, increasing the demand on food produce and bringing the peak water scenario ever closer.  In addition to these concerns, the irrigable land area is also declining in due to rising soil salinity.  One solution that can redress  all

The biggest Renewable Projects around the World http://synergyfiles.com/2016/04/biggest-renewable-projects-by-technology/ http://synergyfiles.com/2016/04/biggest-renewable-projects-by-technology/#respond Thu, 14 Apr 2016 14:00:46 +0000 http://synergyfiles.com/?p=1057 Renewable energy has grown leaps and bounds over the last decade. Part of the drive has come from Kyoto protocol coming into force. The depleting fossil fuels reserves and the volatility of the market has also forced many countries to look the other way. Factoring into this push for localized energy generation is also the insecurity of supply. China for instance is heavily reliant on coal imports the same way USA is on Oil. However, the two countries have taken a very different approach in securing their future energy needs. USA has strengthened their Naval presence on all trade routes. They have consolidated
